    Herman Davis State Park, a compact one-acre site in Manila, Arkansas, stands as a tribute to the remarkable heroism of Private Herman Davis, a native of the town and a World War I legend. Davis, a distinguished sniper, earned numerous accolades for his exceptional bravery, including the Distinguished Service Cross and the French Croix de Guerre. General John J. Pershing recognized Davis as one of the top 100 heroes of WWI. The park's centerpiece is a 25-foot granite obelisk, completed in 1925, adorned with a life-sized Italian marble statue of Davis in his military uniform. His remains are interred at the base of the monument. The park provides a space for reflection on Davis's contributions and sacrifices. In 1953, the site was designated as Arkansas's sixth state park. Although small, Herman Davis State Park offers a serene environment with landscaping, benches, and accessible sidewalks.
