Blanchard Springs Caverns, nestled in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest near Fifty-Six, Arkansas, is a mesmerizing cave system that stands as one of the most carefully developed and spectacular in North America. This "living" cave is constantly changing, with glistening formations of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and flowstones still growing and evolving thanks to the ongoing mountain spring that created it.Visitors can explore this underground world through a variety of guided tours led by Forest Service interpreters. The Dripstone Trail is a half-mile, easily accessible tour suitable for all ages and those with mobility concerns. The Discovery Trail is a more strenuous 1.2-mile tour that descends deep into the caverns, featuring nearly 700 steps and showcasing the natural entrance and lower levels. Note that the Discovery Trail is open seasonally, typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A Wild Cave Tour is currently unavailable but offers a unique off-trail caving experience for the adventurous.Discovered in the 1950s and opened to the public in 1973, Blanchard Springs Caverns maintains a constant 58°F temperature and near 100% humidity. The visitor center provides exhibits, a gift shop, and information about the surrounding area. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made through Recreation.gov.
