Walking
From the center of Alaverdi, start at the main square. Head southeast towards the road that leads to the Alaverdi Monastery. Continue walking along this road for approximately 1.5 kilometers. You will pass by several local shops and cafes. Keep an eye out for local signage indicating the direction to Kayan Fortress. As you approach the outskirts of town, the road will start to incline. Keep walking until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left path which leads towards the hills. This path will eventually lead you to Kayan Fortress, which is approximately 500 meters from the fork. The fortress is located at the top of a hill, providing you with a stunning view of the surrounding area.

Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Alaverdi. Start at the main square and head towards the Alaverdi Monastery, following the same route as pedestrians. Once you reach the fork in the road after about 1.5 kilometers, take the left path that leads uphill. The trek is about 2 kilometers from the fork to Kayan Fortress. Be cautious of the incline and loose gravel as you ascend. Upon reaching the fortress, you can park your bicycle nearby and enjoy the view.

Hiking
If you are an avid hiker, you can approach Kayan Fortress via a more scenic route. Start from the center of Alaverdi and make your way to the Alaverdi Monastery. From there, look for the hiking trails that lead up into the hills. Follow the trail markers which will guide you towards Kayan Fortress. This route may take longer, around 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace, but offers an immersive experience of the natural landscape surrounding Alaverdi. Bring plenty of water and a camera to capture the breathtaking views along the way.
