Inaugurated in 2001 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Armenian independence, the square is named in honor of Aznavour's immense legacy and contributions to music and culture.Located in the Kentron District, the square is bordered by significant venues such as the Stanislavski Russian Theatre of Yerevan, the Moscow Cinema, and the Artists' Union of Armenia offices. The Grand Hotel Yerevan, originally opened in 1926, also overlooks the square, adding to its historical charm. The Moscow Cinema, built in 1936 on the remains of a destroyed church, serves as a focal point.The square itself is beautifully designed, combining traditional and modern elements. A central sculpture depicts Aznavour's smiling face, embodying his positive spirit. Benches and green areas surround the sculpture, inviting visitors to relax and reflect.
