Discover more about House-museum of Avetik Isahakyan

The House-Museum of Avetik Isahakyan, located in a quiet corner of Yerevan on 20 Zarobyan Street, is dedicated to preserving the legacy of one of Armenia's most beloved poets and writers. Avetik Isahakyan, a significant figure in Armenian literature and public life, lived in this house during the last ten years of his life. The museum opened in 1963 as a tribute to his memory, with the Armenian government donating the house. Isahakyan himself chose black tufa for the construction, and the building, designed by architect Perchanush Msryan, resembles a chapel with its triangular dome and porch. The museum is divided into two main sections: the literary and memorial sections. The memorial section recreates the writer's living space, including his office, bedroom, and living room, displaying his personal belongings and original furniture. His office features his extensive library, desk, and even his glasses. The garden contains a bench gifted on his 80th birthday and a bronze bust installed for his 100th birthday. The literary section showcases documents, manuscripts, and photographs related to his life and work. The museum's collection includes over 10,000 items connected to Isahakyan. Visitors can explore exhibits detailing Isahakyan's creative journey and learn about his contributions to Armenian culture. The museum hosts various events, including book presentations, discussions, and exhibitions. The building itself is a blend of architectural styles, with a black tuff exterior and a design that incorporates both one and two-story elements. A red tuff mosaic pavilion, inspired by his poem “Abu-Lala Mahari,” stands in the garden.
