The bronze statue, unveiled in 1957, portrays Tumanyan in a seated position with a coat draped over his shoulders and a book in his lap. The statue's compositional style complements the nearby Alexander Spendiaryan monument. The monument rests on a stepped, rectangular pedestal made of pink marble from Bjni. The total height of the statue, including the pedestal, is 8.55 meters. Freedom Square, where the statue is located, is one of the central squares in Yerevan, near the Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theater. The square has been a site for cultural events and gatherings, as well as significant political demonstrations.
