Getting There

  • Car

    From Areni Wine Region, head south on the main road towards the village of Zangakatun. The best route is to take the R2 highway, which you can access by heading south from Areni. Continue on the R2 for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the junction with the R277. Take the R277 towards Zangakatun. After about 5 kilometers, you will see signs for Hells Canyon. Look for an unnamed road marked as R277+6Q8, and turn onto it. Continue on this road for about 1 kilometer until you reach the parking area.

  • Public Transportation

    From Areni, you can take a marshrutka (minibus) to Vayk, which leaves frequently from the central bus station. The fare is typically around 500 AMD. Once in Vayk, you will need to transfer to another marshrutka heading towards Zangakatun. This leg of the journey may cost an additional 300 AMD. Get off at the stop closest to the R277 junction. From there, you will need to walk approximately 2 kilometers along the R277 road towards Hells Canyon, following the signs. It is advisable to confirm the exact stop with the driver.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from Areni to Hells Canyon. This will provide the most convenience but may be more expensive, with fares typically ranging from 3000 to 5000 AMD depending on negotiation and time of day. The driver will take you directly to the canyon, which is about 25 kilometers away. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.
