Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Hells Canyon via public transport, take a bus or marshrutka (minibus) from Yerevan to Yeghegnadzor. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours. Once in Yeghegnadzor, find a marshrutka heading towards Areni and ask the driver to drop you off at the turn-off for Khachik village. From the drop-off point, it's about a 2-kilometer walk to the parking area near Hells Canyon. Marshrutka fare from Yerevan to Yeghegnadzor is approximately 800-1,000 AMD. Marshrutkas from Yeghegnadzor to the Khachik turnoff are infrequent, so confirm the schedule in advance.

  • Taxi

    For a more direct route, hire a taxi from Yeghegnadzor to Hells Canyon. Negotiate the fare with the driver, which should cost around 3,000 to 5,000 AMD (approximately $8 to $13 USD). The drive takes about 30 minutes. Agree on the fare before starting the trip.

  • Car

    If driving, head to Yeghegnadzor, the administrative center of the Vayots Dzor Region. From Yeghegnadzor, take the M2 highway east towards Areni village. After about 12 kilometers, you'll reach a fork in the road. Keep left and follow signs towards Khachik village. Continue for about 8 kilometers until you reach a small parking area near the entrance to Hells Canyon. From there, a short hike may be necessary to reach the canyon itself. Parking is free but limited.
