Discover more about Swan Lake

Swan Lake, nestled in the Kentron district of Yerevan, is a beloved landmark offering a serene escape from the city's hustle. Officially known as Kukushkin Lake, it was established in the early 20th century as part of Yerevan's urban development, designed by architect Gevorg Musheghyan. The lake was created to enhance the city's green spaces and provide a recreational area for residents and visitors. Named in honor of Tchaikovsky's famous ballet, "Swan Lake," due to its proximity to the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the lake has become a cultural symbol of Yerevan. Swan Lake is graphically a miniature version of Lake Sevan, constructed from stone and concrete. Its surface area is approximately 2490 square meters, with a capacity of 2400 cubic meters. The surrounding area is beautifully landscaped with willows and concrete paths. The lake has an island connected to the path by a small bridge. Over the years, Swan Lake has witnessed several important events in Armenian history, including peaceful gatherings and cultural events. Today, it remains a popular spot for leisurely strolls, picnics, and cultural activities. In winter, part of the lake transforms into an ice-skating rink, adding to its appeal. The lake is adorned with the "Melody" sculpture installed in 1965 and a monument to composer Arno Babajanian erected in 2003.
