Discover more about Mher Mkrtchyan Museum

The Mher Mkrtchyan Museum, located on Rustaveli Street in Gyumri, is a tribute to the life and legacy of the renowned Armenian actor Mher Mkrtchyan, affectionately known as Frunzik. Born in Leninakan (now Gyumri) in 1930, Mkrtchyan was a beloved figure in Armenian cinema and theater, celebrated for his comedic timing and dramatic depth. The museum is housed in a 20th-century building constructed from black tuff, a volcanic stone commonly used in Armenian architecture. The building initially served as a residential house before being nationalized and repurposed after the Soviet revolution. Severely damaged during the 1988 earthquake, the building was reconstructed, and the museum officially opened in 2006. The museum's collection includes stage costumes, props from famous movies such as "The Tango of Our Childhood" and "The Orchestra Boys", awards, photographs, books, and personal items. These artifacts offer insight into Mkrtchyan's life, career, and the broader context of Armenian cinema and theater during his time. The museum also hosts various events and thematic matinees, contributing to the cultural life of Gyumri.
