If you are traveling by car, start from the city of Goris, which is a central location in Syunik. Head east on the M2 highway towards Kapan. After approximately 20 kilometers, take the exit for the road leading to the Ughtasar Lake area. Follow the signs towards the Ughtasar Petroglyphs, which is about a 15-kilometer drive from the highway. The last part of the drive may be on a gravel road, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for this terrain. Look out for signs indicating the petroglyphs, and park your car in the designated area.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a minibus (marshrutka) from Goris to Kapan. The minibus ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you reach Kapan, you may need to hire a taxi to reach the Ughtasar Petroglyphs, as public transport options from Kapan to Ughtasar are limited. The taxi ride to the petroglyphs will take approximately 30 minutes. Confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey; expect to pay around 3000-5000 AMD (Armenian Dram) for the ride.
Hiking
If you prefer an adventurous approach, you can hike to the Ughtasar Petroglyphs starting from Ughtasar Lake. Begin your hike from the nearest road access point after parking your car or being dropped off by a taxi. The hike to the petroglyphs is roughly 2 kilometers and can take about 45 minutes, depending on your pace. Ensure you wear suitable hiking shoes and bring plenty of water.
