Spandarian Reservoir, located in the Syunik Province, is one of Armenia's most visually striking reservoirs. Formed in 1980 by damming the Vorotan River, it serves as a crucial component of the Vorotan Cascade, a series of hydroelectric power plants. The reservoir plays a significant role in Armenia's energy production, contributing sustainable power to the surrounding areas. The reservoir's setting is particularly captivating, with the rugged Zangezur Mountains providing a stunning backdrop. Its considerable size makes it the second-largest reservoir in Armenia by volume. The reservoir stretches approximately 7 kilometers in length and 2.5 to 3 kilometers in width, reaching a depth of 73 meters. Its surface area spans 10.8 square kilometers, holding a total capacity of 257 million cubic meters of water. Beyond its functional purpose, Spandarian Reservoir is recognized as a prime fishing location in Armenia. The reservoir is also a stop on tours of the region.     Driving

    From Yerevan, take the M2 highway southeast towards Goris. The journey is approximately 180 km and takes around 3-4 hours. As you approach the Syunik region, look for signs directing you towards Spandarian Reservoir. Note that infrastructure may be limited in the immediate vicinity.

    Taxi

    Taxis can be hired from major towns and cities in Armenia, such as Yerevan or Goris. A taxi from Goris to Spandarian Reservoir will cost approximately 5,000-7,000 AMD and take around 1-1.5 hours. Be sure to negotiate the price beforehand.
