Discover more about Cafesjian Center For The Arts

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts, also known as the Cafesjian Museum Foundation, is located in the heart of Yerevan, Armenia, within the Yerevan Cascade complex. The Cascade is a massive staircase adorned with fountains, ascending from Tamanyan Street. Conceived in the 1920s by architect Alexander Tamanyan, the Cascade was intended to connect the northern and central parts of Yerevan with green spaces and waterfalls. Construction began in the 1980s but halted after the 1988 earthquake. In 2002, Armenian-American businessman and philanthropist Gerard Cafesjian revitalized the project, transforming it into a contemporary arts center. The center opened in November 2009, showcasing modern art and Armenian culture. The CCA's collection is largely derived from Gerard L. Cafesjian's private collection, featuring over 5,000 works. The museum has one of the most comprehensive glass collections in the world, including works by Czech artists Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová. The collection also includes drawings, paintings, and sculptures by artists like Fernando Botero, Arshile Gorky, and Lynn Chadwick. The Cafesjian Sculpture Garden, located in front of the Cascade, features sculptures by Fernando Botero, Lynn Chadwick, and Jaume Plensa. The center also includes several galleries, such as Gallery One, Khanjyan Gallery, and Sasuntsi Davit Garden Gallery. The Khanjyan Gallery features the mural triptych "History of Armenia" by Grigor Khanjyan. The Sasuntsi Davit hall contains a wall relief of Sasuntsi Davit, the hero of the Armenian epic “Daredevils of Sassoun”. The center hosts lectures, films, concerts, and educational programs. The Cafesjian Center for the Arts is dedicated to bringing the best of contemporary art to Armenia and presenting Armenian culture to the world.
