Discover more about Cascade Complex

The Cascade is a massive, terraced step pyramid in Yerevan, Armenia, that blends architecture, sculpture, and urban planning. Conceived in the 1920s by architect Alexander Tamanyan, the concept was to connect the northern and central parts of Yerevan with a green space featuring cascading waterfalls and gardens. The project was revived in the late 1970s by Yerevan's chief architect, Jim Torosyan, and construction began in the 1980s. The complex consists of five hillside terraces connected by 572 steps. Inside, escalators and elevators make the ascent easier. The terraces feature gardens, fountains, and sculptures by renowned artists like Fernando Botero and Lynn Chadwick. The Cafesjian Museum of Art is integrated within the Cascade, showcasing contemporary art. The Cascade offers panoramic views of Yerevan and the Ararat Valley. At the top, Victory Park commemorates the Soviet Army's victory in World War II. The Cascade is not just a stairway but a cultural center and open-air museum.
