Discover more about Alice Springs Reptile Centre

The Alice Springs Reptile Centre, opened in January 2000, is a privately operated reptile center and environmental education facility displaying the largest collection of reptiles in the Northern Territory. Founded by Rex Neindorf, a former reptile handler, the center is devoted to indigenous reptiles, many collected from local properties or areas undergoing controlled burns. The center features over 100 reptiles of 60 different species. Exhibits include the Perentie Goanna, Frill-necked Lizards, Thorny Devils, and a variety of pythons. See some of the world's most venomous snakes, such as Inland Taipans, Brown Snakes, and Death Adders, safely behind glass. A highlight is Terry, the Saltwater Crocodile, viewed through an underground glass exhibit. The Gecko Cave displays different gecko species from Alice Springs, the Barkly Tablelands, and the Top End. Interactive talks and handling sessions are conducted daily by knowledgeable staff. These sessions offer insights into reptile habitats, diets, and snake-bite first aid. Visitors can even handle some of the friendlier lizards and pythons under supervision. The center also operates as a snake call center, removing venomous snakes from residential areas.
