Discover more about Alice Springs Reptile Centre

The Alice Springs Reptile Centre is a privately operated reptile center and environmental education facility dedicated to showcasing and protecting the unique reptiles of the Northern Territory. Founded in January 2000 by Rex Neindorf, a former reptile handler, the center has grown to house the largest collection of reptiles in the region. Visitors can explore a diverse range of species, including the Perentie (Australia's largest lizard), frill-necked lizards, and the thorny devil. The center also features a variety of pythons and venomous snakes such as the Inland Taipan, Brown Snake, and Death Adder, all safely displayed behind glass. A highlight is Terry, a large saltwater crocodile, viewed from an underground perspective. The Gecko Cave exhibits various gecko species from Alice Springs, the Barkly Tablelands, and the Top End. The center actively rescues and relocates reptiles from local properties and areas undergoing controlled burns. It also operates as a snake call center, removing venomous snakes from residential areas. Interactive talks and handling sessions are offered daily, providing insights into reptile habitats, behaviors, and snake-bite first aid. These sessions often include supervised handling of friendlier lizards and pythons.
