Discover more about Barron Valley Hotel

The Barron Valley Hotel stands as a landmark in Atherton, a town nestled in the Atherton Tablelands. The hotel's story began in the 1880s with a simple wooden structure that catered to prospectors. As Atherton grew, so did the hotel, evolving into a two-story timber building by 1907 that became a social center. In 1938, Scondor Nasser, whose family has run the hotel for over 70 years, rebuilt it in the Art Deco style that still defines its character today. Designed by Hall & Taylor, the new brick hotel featured 30 bedrooms, a billiards parlor, two bars, a lounge, and a dining room. During World War II, the hotel served as the headquarters and officers' club for the Australian Army. Today, the Barron Valley Hotel continues to be managed by the Nasser family and offers a range of services, including a bar, bistro, and bottle shop. It's known for its friendly atmosphere, live music events, and pub-style meals. The hotel has received accolades, including a Centenary of Federation Award and recognition from the Queensland Hotels Association.
