If you are driving, start from Atherton town center and head east on Maunds Road, continuing onto the Atherton-Malanda Road. Follow this road for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Kennedy Highway (State Route 1). Turn right onto the Kennedy Highway and continue for about 25 kilometers. Take the exit towards Mareeba, and merge onto Byrnes Street North. The John Atherton Historical Marker will be on your left side, just past the Mareeba information center. There is no parking fee, but please note the road may have occasional traffic.
