If you are driving, start from Atherton town center and head east on Maunds Road, continuing onto the Atherton-Malanda Road. Follow this road for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Kennedy Highway (State Route 1). Turn right onto the Kennedy Highway and continue for about 25 kilometers. Take the exit towards Mareeba, and merge onto Byrnes Street North. The John Atherton Historical Marker will be on your left side, just past the Mareeba information center. There is no parking fee, but please note the road may have occasional traffic.

To reach the John Atherton Historical Marker using public transportation, start at the Atherton bus stop located in the center of Atherton. Take the Sunbus service towards Mareeba. The journey will take approximately 45 minutes. Make sure to check the current bus schedule for exact times. Get off at the 'Mareeba Visitor Information Centre' stop. From there, it is a short 5-minute walk. Head northeast on Byrnes Street North, and you will find the John Atherton Historical Marker on your left side. Bus fares vary, so check the Sunbus website for ticket prices.
