Getting There
-
Car
If you're traveling by car, ensure you have a reliable 4WD vehicle, as the roads to Cape York Tip can be challenging. From the town of Weipa, take the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) north. Follow the PDR until you reach the junction for the Old Telegraph Track. Turn left onto the Old Telegraph Track and follow this scenic route. Continue on the Old Telegraph Track, which may involve some river crossings and rough terrain, so drive carefully. After about 80 km, you will come to the sign indicating Pajinka (Cape York Tip). Follow the signs to the parking area. From the parking area, it's a short walk to the viewpoint at the tip. Please note that some sections of the track may require a permit, which can be obtained from local information centers.
-
Public Transport
Public transport options are limited in this remote area. The best way is to take a tour bus from major towns like Cairns or Weipa. These tours usually include stops along the way and provide information about the region. Make sure to book in advance, as spots can fill quickly during peak seasons. Once you arrive at the tip, tours often include a guided walk to the lookout point. Costs for the tour can vary, typically ranging from AUD 150 to AUD 300 per person, depending on the inclusions.
-
Walking
Once you reach the parking area at Pajinka, you'll need to walk approximately 1 km along a well-marked trail to the viewpoint. The trail is well-maintained, but wear sturdy shoes as it can be uneven in some places. Be sure to carry water and sun protection, as shade is limited along the path.
