Janbal Gallery: Aboriginal Art and Cultural Experience

Janbal Gallery, located in Mossman, Far North Queensland, is more than just an art gallery; it's an immersive Aboriginal cultural experience. Owned and operated by Brian 'Binna' Swindley, a renowned Kuku Yalanji artist, the gallery provides a space for visitors to connect with Aboriginal art and culture. Established in 2008, Janbal Gallery invites visitors to learn about Aboriginal art through workshops and storytelling. Binna Swindley shares his knowledge of Kuku Yalanji culture, dreamtime stories, and the symbolism used in traditional Aboriginal art. Visitors can create their own Aboriginal-style souvenir while learning about the local culture. The gallery is named after Binna's mother, Shirley 'Janbal' Swindley, also an acclaimed Aboriginal artist. 'Janbal' means Blue Quandon, a rare blue rainforest fruit.
