Discover more about The Big Pineapple

The Big Pineapple, located in Woombye on the Sunshine Coast, is more than just a giant fruit; it's a piece of Australian tourism history. Originally opened in 1971 as part of the Sunshine Plantation, it showcased the region's tropical produce. Visitors could tour the pineapple farm, sample local fruits, and learn about agriculture. For decades, the Big Pineapple was a must-see destination for holidaymakers, drawing crowds with its novelty and educational exhibits. The site expanded over the years to include a macadamia nut factory (with the iconic Nutmobile ride), a Polynesian restaurant, and even a rainforest walk. Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited in the 1980s, cementing its place in Australian popular culture. While the Big Pineapple experienced a period of decline and even closure in the late 2000s, it has been revitalized under new ownership. Today, visitors can explore the iconic structure, take a train ride through the grounds, visit the Wildlife HQ Zoo, or challenge themselves on the TreeTop Challenge high ropes course. Although climbing inside the pineapple is currently not permitted, tours of the Big Pineapple are available. The Big Pineapple Music Festival is also a popular annual event. The Big Pineapple continues to evolve as a tourism and food hub, showcasing the best of the Sunshine Coast.
