Discover more about Bute silo art

The Bute Silo Art stands as a testament to community collaboration and artistic vision in the heart of South Australia's Yorke Peninsula. Completed in April 2022 by artists Scott Nagy and Janne Birkner, the mural transformed the Viterra silos into a vibrant canvas that reflects the region's identity. The silo art's design emerged from community feedback, with residents expressing a desire for bright colors and depictions of local agriculture, flora, and fauna. The artists masterfully incorporated these elements, including a rooster (the mascot for local sporting clubs), sheep, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Superb Fairy Wrens, native orchids, and the Hummocks range in the background. The artwork also tells the story of women in regional areas, representing a girl pushing a vintage bike alongside train tracks. The Bute Silo Art has garnered national recognition, winning Gold for Best Rural Art and Silver for Best Mega Mural at the 2022 Australian Street Art Awards. This recognition has solidified Bute's reputation as a destination for art lovers and helped to boost the local economy. Visitors can view the artwork from the Railway Terrace car park, but are reminded that the area is a working construction site and they must not enter the Viterra property.
