    Discover more about Polda Rock

Polda Rock, located approximately 7 kilometers east of Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula, is more than just an impressive natural formation; it's a landmark deeply intertwined with the town's history and survival. This large granite monolith was ingeniously utilized as a vital water source for the Wudinna township in its early settlement days. Visitors can still observe the original infrastructure, including the hand-constructed stone channels designed to collect rainwater runoff from the rock's surface. This water was then directed into a reservoir at the base, showcasing the resourcefulness of early settlers in adapting to the arid landscape. In 2002, the local council restored parts of this water supply infrastructure, laying new pipes to transport water from Polda Rock to Wudinna for use in parklands and sporting facilities. Today, Polda Rock Recreation Reserve is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. A two-kilometer walking trail circumnavigates the rock, offering opportunities for bird watching, nature walks, and photography. The reserve provides basic amenities such as parking, picnic areas with barbecues, and public toilets. It's a place where visitors can connect with nature, learn about the region's history, and enjoy a peaceful escape. Camping is not permitted.
