Discover more about Artesian Bore Baths

The Lightning Ridge Artesian Bore Baths provide a soothing retreat, drawing visitors and locals alike to unwind in naturally heated thermal waters. Opened in 1962, the baths are supplied by the Great Artesian Basin, the largest and deepest aquifer of its kind, with water dating back two million years. The water emerges at a constant temperature of approximately 41.5 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit) and is known for its therapeutic qualities, offering relief for aching muscles. The baths are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing a unique opportunity to soak under the stars. Please note that the baths are closed for cleaning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings between 10 am and 12 noon. The facility includes an amenities block with toilets, showers, and poolside showers for convenience. Lightning Ridge itself is an opal mining town famed for its black opals and colorful characters. Prior to European settlement, the area was home to the Kamilaroi Aboriginal people, who believed opals were remnants of a great wheel of fire. Today, visitors can explore opal shops, quirky museums like the Bottle House Museum, and enjoy the vast outback landscape. After a day of fossicking or exploring, the Artesian Bore Baths offer the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate.
