Car
From the center of Far West, head southeast on the M1 Motorway towards Sydney. Continue for approximately 70 kilometers until you reach the exit for the Royal National Park. Follow the signs for the Royal National Park and take Lady Wakehurst Drive. Drive until you reach the Figure Eight Pools trailhead, which is located at the southern end of the park. There is no direct parking at the pools, so park at the designated parking area near the entrance to the park (note there may be a parking fee of around AUD 12). From the parking area, it's a short hike to the pools, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear.
Public Transport
Take a train from Far West to Waterfall Station on the South Coast Line. Trains typically run every 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Waterfall Station, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service to the Royal National Park entrance. The taxi ride should take about 15 minutes and will cost approximately AUD 20-30. From the park entrance, follow the signs to the Figure Eight Pools trailhead, which involves a short hike. Make sure to check the train schedule in advance for return trips.
Walking
After parking at the Royal National Park, follow the trail signs towards the Figure Eight Pools. The hike is approximately 1.5 kilometers one way and should take about 30-40 minutes depending on your pace. Be prepared for uneven terrain and remember to bring water and sun protection. Ensure you start your hike early enough to return before sunset, as the park closes at 8:30 PM.
