This 28km unsealed road traverses stunning landscapes between the Outback Highway and Flinders Ranges Way. The drive offers panoramic vistas of rugged mountains, sweeping valleys, and iconic Australian outback scenery.
As you embark on this adventure, you'll be treated to views of Wilpena Pound's southern edge and the Elder Range. The road winds through Arkaba Station and Merna Mora Station, offering glimpses into pastoral life. Keep an eye out for native wildlife such as emus, kangaroos, and wallabies along the way. The drive is particularly scenic in late winter and spring when wildflowers bloom, adding vibrant colors to the landscape.
Approximately 15km into the drive, a signpost indicates the turnoff to Black Gap Lookout. A short detour leads to the lookout, providing views of Wilpena Pound's rugged rim to the north and the Red and Elder Ranges to the south. The historic Old Cueing Yards, dating back to the 1870s, are another point of interest along the drive. These yards were used to hold bullocks that hauled native pines for the construction of the Overland Telegraph Line.

Car
The Moralana Scenic Drive is located within the Flinders Ranges. From Hawker, head approximately 23 kilometers north on Wilpena Road (Flinders Ranges Way). Alternatively, from Hawker, travel 45km north on the Outback Highway towards Parachilna. Look for the signposted turnoff to Moralana Gorge Road. The drive is a 28km loop. Parking is available along the drive at various lookout points.

To reach Moralana Scenic Drive using public transport, take a coach service from Adelaide to Hawker. From Hawker, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange a tour with a local operator to reach the drive, as public transport does not directly service the area. Expect a taxi fare of $50-$70 AUD, depending on distance and wait time.
