Stokes Hill Lookout Travel Guide

Stokes Hill Lookout, near Willow Springs in South Australia, provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Flinders Ranges. Easily accessible by car, it's a popular destination for witnessing the stunning sunrises and sunsets over the outback landscape. From the lookout, visitors can see iconic landmarks such as Wilpena Pound, the Bunkers Range, and the Druid Range.The lookout was opened in March 1992 to honor the history of the Adnyamathanha people, whose name means 'Rock People'. Signage at the site explains the symbolism of indigenous rock art and Dreamtime stories related to the creation of Ikara (Wilpena Pound).Stokes Hill Lookout is located approximately 19 kilometers north of Wilpena Pound Resort. While the road to the summit is a steep dirt track, it is generally accessible to 2WD vehicles with care, though towing is not advised. At the summit, visitors will find benches, tables, and a 3D model depicting the surrounding topography. It's the perfect place to take a bottle of wine and nibbles and enjoy the ever changing colours of our landscape.
