Car
To reach Elder Range Lookout by car, start from the town of Hawker, which is a common base for exploring the Flinders Ranges. From Hawker, head north on the Flinders Ranges Way (B83) for approximately 21 kilometers. Look for the sign indicating the turn-off to Elder Range Lookout on your right. The lookout is located about 5 kilometers down this unsealed road. Be cautious as the road may have loose gravel and occasional potholes. There is no entry fee to access the lookout.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transport, take the bus from Adelaide to Hawker. Buses like the 'Adelaide to Hawker' service run regularly (check the schedule for current times and availability). Once in Hawker, you will need to hire a taxi or use a rideshare service to get to Elder Range Lookout, as public transport does not extend to the lookout. The taxi ride should take around 30 minutes. Always confirm the fare with the driver before starting the trip.
Walking
For those who are adventurous and physically fit, you can consider a walking trek from the nearest point accessible by car or taxi. If you drive to the end of the sealed road near the turn-off to Elder Range Lookout, you can start your walk from there. The trek will be roughly 5 kilometers along the unsealed road leading to the lookout. Ensure you wear suitable footwear and carry plenty of water, as this is a remote area with limited facilities.
