    Discover more about Eli Creek

Eli Creek is a true natural wonder on K'gari, also known as Fraser Island, drawing visitors with its pristine freshwater and picturesque setting. As the largest creek on the island's eastern beach, it releases over four million liters of fresh, filtered water into the ocean every hour. This constant flow creates a gentle current perfect for a relaxing float. The creek's water is exceptionally pure, having been filtered through the island's ancient sand dunes for over 100 years. This purity made it a significant site for the local Butchulla people, who used it as a meeting place and for baptizing children. Today, visitors can learn about the creek's history and ecology along the elevated boardwalk that meanders through banksia and pandanus trees. At the end of the boardwalk, steps lead down into the cool, shallow water, inviting you to take a dip. Many choose to float down the creek on inflatable tubes, enjoying the gentle ride back to the beach. The creek is home to various species, including fish, frogs, and eels, though they tend to stay away from the busier areas. Remember to respect the environment by staying within designated areas and avoiding disturbing the natural habitat.
