From the heart of Sale, the Gippsland Art Gallery is easily accessible on foot. Head towards the Port of Sale, and you'll find the Wellington Centre, where the gallery is located. The walk is straightforward and takes approximately 10-15 minutes from most central locations.

Public Transport

If arriving by train at Sale Station, you can catch a bus to the Gippsland Shopping Centre/Cunninghame St. From there, it's a short walk to the Wellington Centre and the Gippsland Art Gallery. The bus journey takes around 5 minutes , and a single fare costs between $1-$9. Alternatively, a taxi from Sale Station to the gallery costs approximately $14-$17 and takes only 2 minutes.

The Gippsland Art Gallery stands as a cornerstone of arts and culture in the Gippsland region. Established in 1965, the gallery has evolved from its humble beginnings as the Sale Regional Arts Centre to become a prominent public gallery hosting around thirty exhibitions annually. These exhibitions showcase a diverse range of local, national, and international artists, encompassing contemporary, modern, and historical works.The gallery's permanent collection comprises over 1,700 artworks, with a focus on art related to Gippsland and the natural environment. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, photographs, textiles, metalwork, and woodwork. A dedicated space showcases the work of Sale-based textile artist Annemieke Mein OAM.The Gippsland Art Gallery is located in the Wellington Centre, which also houses the Sale Library and Visitor Information Centre. The gallery's location at the Port of Sale offers visitors views of the waterways and parkland. The gallery also runs the Maffra Exhibition Space as an access space for local artists.In 2018, the gallery underwent a major redevelopment, enhancing the visitor experience with increased exhibition spaces and improved access to the gallery's collection. The redeveloped gallery includes an art reference library, a gallery shop, and The Dock Cafe.
