Lerida Estate, established in 1998 on the shores of the enigmatic Lake George, is more than just a winery; it's a destination that seamlessly blends architectural brilliance with exceptional cool-climate wines. The winery was founded in 1997 on a site chosen with the wisdom of Dr. Edgar Riek, a CSIRO scientist. The vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and Viognier grapes. The winery building, designed by renowned Australian architect Glenn Murcutt in 2005, is a destination in itself. Its design accommodates the wine-making process and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The building's architecture has been described as having a classical beauty of modern taste. Visitors can sample Lerida Estate's wines at the cellar door, with seated tastings available. The wines, made in small quantities, have garnered awards and are highly sought after. The on-site Café Lerida offers a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy seasonal food and wine, either indoors or in the courtyard overlooking Lake George. The cafe is open weekends and public holidays only. Lerida Estate also hosts events, including live music and wine tastings.
