Car
If you are driving, start from Lucinda, a nearby town on the mainland. Head north on the Bruce Highway (A1) towards Cardwell. Once in Cardwell, follow signs for the Cardwell-Hinchinbrook Island Ferry terminal. The ferry ride to Hinchinbrook Island is approximately 30 minutes and costs around AUD 30 per adult. Upon arriving on Hinchinbrook Island, follow the main road to the end, where you'll find the Hinchinbrook Lookout parking area. From the parking lot, a short walking trail will lead you to the lookout.
Public Transportation
To reach Hinchinbrook Lookout using public transportation, take a bus to Cardwell from Cairns or Townsville. The bus service operates regularly, but be sure to check the timetable in advance. Once you arrive in Cardwell, walk to the Cardwell-Hinchinbrook Island Ferry terminal. The ferry ride to Hinchinbrook Island takes about 30 minutes and costs around AUD 30 per adult. After disembarking the ferry, take the main road to the end where you will find the Hinchinbrook Lookout parking area. From there, follow the walking trail leading to the lookout.
Walking
If you are already on Hinchinbrook Island and wish to hike to the lookout, start from the parking area at the end of the main road. The walking trail to Hinchinbrook Lookout is well-marked and takes approximately 30-45 minutes to reach the lookout. Be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water, as the trail can be steep in some sections.
