Jetty Lookout, situated on Cape Buffon Drive in Southend, South Australia, provides visitors with stunning coastal vistas. From this vantage point, one can observe the operations of the local crayfishing fleet, particularly active between October and May. The lookout offers sweeping views of Rivoli Bay and the Southend Jetty, a structure that has been central to the town's identity as a fishing port. Southend itself has a rich history, initially named Greytown in 1846 after Governor George Grey. It served as the first seaport in the Limestone Coast, facilitating trade and settlement in the region. The town briefly changed its name to Rivoli Bay South between 1875 and 1879 before reverting to Grey Town and finally being named Southend in 1971. Today, Southend is known both as a working cray fishing port and a holiday destination. The lookout is located near the Cape Buffon Walking Trail, a 2.5km loop that showcases the dramatic effects of wind and waves on the limestone cliffs. Interpretive signs along the trail highlight the unique geological features and plant life of the area. Nearby, the Geltwood Anchor Memorial commemorates the tragic sinking of the barque Geltwood in 1876, a poignant reminder of the perils of the sea.
