While the gardens were reduced in size due to the widening of the Lower Esplanade in 1968, they have retained their charm and significance. The gardens have a history as a meeting place for Aboriginal people. In 1997, the City of Port Phillip erected a cultural marker bearing symbols of the traditional owners of the site, the Boon wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples.Today, visitors can enjoy the well-maintained lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, and shady trees, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic. The gardens offer a peaceful atmosphere, making them an ideal spot to unwind and appreciate the natural beauty of St Kilda West [i].
