  • Driving

    To reach the Perpendicular Point Walking Track, drive along Camden Head Road. Turn onto Bergalia Crescent and follow it until you reach the Bergalia carpark, where the walk commences. Parking is available at Charles Hamey lookout, including designated disabled spots. Parking is free.

  • Public Transport

    From Laurieton, you can take the 332 bus towards Camden Head. Alight at the Bergalia Crescent at Idant Street stop. From there, it's a short walk to the Bergalia carpark, the starting point of the Perpendicular Point Walking Track. A single bus fare costs approximately $2.20 - $3.50 AUD.

The Perpendicular Point Walking Track, located within the Kattang Nature Reserve near Camden Head, New South Wales, is a captivating coastal walk that offers breathtaking views and a chance to immerse yourself in nature. The 3.7km return trail winds through a shady grove, eventually emerging at the majestic Perpendicular Point. From the lookout at Perpendicular Point, you can gaze north towards Port Macquarie and south towards Diamond Head, with the dramatic North Brother Mountain visible to the southwest. The sheer cliffs plunge 40 meters to the sea below, providing a stunning backdrop for whale watching and dolphin spotting. The area is also rich in birdlife, with honeyeaters feeding off the banksias and glossy black cockatoos nibbling at the black she-oaks. Spring is an especially beautiful time to visit, as the reserve bursts into color with blooming wildflowers like boronia, flannel flower, everlasting daisy, and wedding bush. The name 'Kattang' comes from the local language of the Birpai Aboriginal people, and shell middens in the area provide evidence of Aboriginal occupation for thousands of years. The landscape and wildlife of Kattang continue to be an important part of the identity, spirituality and cultural heritage of the Birpai People. Kattang Nature Reserve also has a maritime past. The Camden Head Pilot Station, located next to the reserve, is heritage listed. Ships once waited for days for a pilot to signal safe passage into the estuary.
