Bring appropriate footwear for walking on the sand, and be prepared for a 3km walk from the car park to the point.

    Discover more about Sandy Point

Sandy Point, often referred to as Navy Beach due to its location on Royal Australian Navy property, is a distinctive geographical feature near Somers on the Mornington Peninsula. It's a 4.5 km long sand spit formed by the natural action of waves and tides, deposited across the entrance to the northern arm of Western Port. Walking along Sandy Point offers picturesque views towards Phillip Island and across Western Port. The beach is generally quiet, providing a tranquil escape. Note that the beach connects to the HMAS Cerberus Naval Base at its far end, which is a restricted area. Swimming is generally considered safe when winds and waves are low, but caution is advised due to potentially strong currents. Historically, Somers was part of the Coolart pastoral run from 1840. The area has evolved from a cattle property to a seaside town with a rich history, including a period as a migrant holding center. Today, Sandy Point remains a natural attraction, offering a glimpse into the area's coastal environment.
