Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the Mount Field National Park Visitor Centre. Head south on Lake Dobson Road for approximately 6 km. You will reach the end of the road where you can park your vehicle at the Lake Dobson car park. From there, continue on foot via the Mount Field West Track, which leads directly to the Rodway Range. The hike is approximately 5 km and generally takes around 2-3 hours. Be prepared for steep sections and ensure you have adequate supplies.
Public Transportation + Walking
If you are using public transportation, take the bus service from Hobart to Mount Field National Park. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you can walk to the Visitor Centre, which is about 1 km away (approximately 15-20 minutes on foot). From the Visitor Centre, follow the directions for cars (as mentioned above) to reach the Lake Dobson car park. You will then need to hike the Mount Field West Track to reach Rodway Range.
Hiking Only
For experienced hikers, you can start your journey at the Visitor Centre and hike directly to Rodway Range. Follow the Mount Field West Track, which is well-marked. The total distance is approximately 5 km one way, and you should allow for 2-3 hours of hiking time under normal conditions. Make sure to check the weather and trail conditions before you start.
