Walking
To get to Cooya Beach from central Port Douglas, start at the Port Douglas Visitor Information Centre located on Macrossan Street. Head northwest on Macrossan Street towards Wharf Street. Continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with Captain Cook Highway (State Route 44). Cross the highway at the pedestrian crossing, being cautious of traffic. Once across, turn right and follow Captain Cook Highway for approximately 3 kilometers. You will see signs for Cooya Beach on your left. Turn onto Cooya Beach Road, which will lead you directly to the beach.
Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Port Douglas. From Macrossan Street, head towards Wharf Street and then join Captain Cook Highway. Cycle along the highway for about 3 kilometers, watching for traffic. Look for the sign for Cooya Beach on your left. Turn onto Cooya Beach Road and follow it straight to the beach. This route is relatively flat and scenic, allowing you to enjoy the views as you ride.
Public Transport
To reach Cooya Beach via public transport, walk to the nearest bus stop on Captain Cook Highway from central Port Douglas. Look for the local bus service that operates towards Mossman. Board the bus and inform the driver that you are heading to Cooya Beach. The bus will drop you off at the designated stop on Cooya Beach Road. From the bus stop, it's a short walk to the beach. Make sure to check the bus schedule beforehand, as services may vary.
