Cataract Gorge Reserve: A Natural Wonderland

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from anywhere in South West Tasmania, head towards Launceston. From the city center, take the Bass Highway (A1) and follow the signs for Launceston. Once in Launceston, continue onto Paterson Street, then take a left onto Basin Road. Follow Basin Road until you reach Cataract Gorge Reserve at 74-90 Basin Rd, West Launceston. Parking is available at the reserve, but there may be a small fee depending on the time of year.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transportation, you can take a bus from your location to Launceston. Once in Launceston, use the Metro Tasmania bus service. Look for bus route 45, which goes to Cataract Gorge. The bus will drop you off near the entrance to the reserve. Always check the latest bus schedules online or via the Metro Tasmania app, as times and frequencies may vary.

• Walking

  If you're already in Launceston and prefer walking, you can stroll to Cataract Gorge Reserve. From the city center, it’s about a 30-minute walk. Head north on Paterson Street, cross the river, and follow the signs directing you to the gorge. The walk is scenic and offers lovely views of the surrounding area.

• Bicycle

  For those who enjoy cycling, Launceston has bike paths that lead to Cataract Gorge. You can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Launceston. Follow the bike paths along the Tamar River, and you'll find a designated bike route leading directly to the reserve. Make sure to wear a helmet and be aware of traffic.
