Walking
If you are staying in Airlie Beach, start at the Airlie Beach Lagoon. Head northeast along the coastline on the Esplanade. Continue walking for approximately 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Shute Harbour Road. Turn right onto Shute Harbour Road and continue walking for about 1 kilometer. You will see signs indicating the direction to Spion Kop Lookout. Follow the signs until you reach the lookout point. The walk will take around 30-40 minutes and offers scenic views of the coastline.
Bicycle
For a more adventurous route, consider renting a bicycle in Airlie Beach. Start at the Airlie Beach Lagoon and cycle northeast along the Esplanade. After about 1.5 kilometers, turn right onto Shute Harbour Road. Continue cycling for approximately 1 kilometer, following the signs for Spion Kop Lookout. The route is relatively flat, making it suitable for cyclists of all skill levels. Expect the ride to take around 15-20 minutes, depending on your speed.
Public Transport
While there isn't direct public transport to Spion Kop Lookout, you can take a bus from Airlie Beach to Shute Harbour Road. Board the bus at the Airlie Beach bus terminal and request to get off at the closest stop to Shute Harbour Road. Once you alight, it will be a short 10 to 15-minute walk following Shute Harbour Road until you see the signs for Spion Kop Lookout. Make sure to check the local bus schedule for timings.
