Getting There

Walking

From the center of Hallstatt, head towards the main street, Marktplatz. Continue straight until you reach the Hallstatt train station (Bahnhof Hallstatt). Once at the train station, take the train to Gmunden. The train ride will take approximately 30 minutes. After arriving at Gmunden station, exit the station and walk towards the lake (Traunsee). Follow the signs toward Schloss Ort, which is about a 15-minute walk from the station. You will see the castle on a small island as you approach.

From Hallstatt, walk to the Hallstatt ferry dock located near the waterfront. Take a ferry to Gmunden, which offers a scenic view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Gmunden ferry terminal, follow the signs to Schloss Ort. It’s just a short walk to the castle, which is situated on a small island connected by a bridge.
