Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Walking
Salzburg Cathedral is located in the heart of Salzburg's Altstadt (Old Town), a pedestrian zone. From most points in the Old Town, such as Mozart's Birthplace or Residenzplatz, the cathedral is easily reachable within a few minutes on foot. Simply follow the signs or the flow of people towards the Domplatz (Cathedral Square).
Public Transport
If arriving by public transport, take a bus to Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz, which is a short walk from the Cathedral. Many bus lines serve this stop, including lines 1, 8, 10, A, 22, and 23. From the bus stop, walk towards the large white building with the green dome – that's the Cathedral. A single ride ticket within the core zone of Salzburg costs €2.40 as of January 1, 2025. Tickets can be purchased from vending machines at bus stops or directly on the bus for a higher price. A short trip ticket is also available for €1.50.
Parking
If arriving by car, be aware that the Old Town is largely a pedestrian zone with restricted access. The most convenient parking option is the Altstadtgarage, a parking garage with entrances on Neutorstrasse. Follow signs for 'Altstadtgarage' as you approach the city center. From the Altstadtgarage, the Cathedral is a short walk. Exit the garage at Toscaninihof (for Garage B) and walk for 5-6 minutes to the Domplatz. Parking rates at Altstadtgarage vary, but expect to pay around €3.90 per hour.
