Discover more about Anton Karg Haus

The Anton Karg Haus, also known as Hinterbärenbad, is an Alpine Club hut with a long and storied past. Located in the upper Kaisertal valley, it's named after Anton Karg, a co-founder of the Kufstein Section of the Austrian Alpine Club. The hut sits at an elevation of 829 meters, offering breathtaking views of the Wilder Kaiser and Zahmer Kaiser mountains within the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve. Originally, in 1882, the municipality of Kufstein lent an alpine hut to the Kufstein Branch, which was then renovated and opened as the Hinterbärenbad refuge on July 25, 1883. After further expansion, the building was transferred to the full ownership of the Kufstein branch. The New Hinterbärenbad Hut was constructed in the winter of 1894/95 and opened in the spring of 1895, featuring unusually spacious rooms, some with balconies, that were used as a summer retreat. Easily accessible for hikers, the Anton Karg Haus is a popular destination, especially in good weather, for those seeking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Kaisertal valley. The path to the hut is considered particularly scenic, with light limestone rocks that create the feeling of walking into the mountains. The hut combines Tyrolean tradition and modernity, offering cozy rooms, spacious guest lounges, and regional products.
