Karl von Edelhütte, affectionately known as Edelhütte, is a mountain hut that provides a welcoming rest stop for those exploring the Zillertal Alps. Located at 2,238 meters, the hut is a popular destination for day hikers and a starting point for longer treks, including the Berlin High Trail.Originally built in 1889 by the Würzburg Division of the German Alpine Club, the hut has a rich history. It was named after Carl von Edel, a liberal politician and the founding chairman of the Würzburg section. Over the years, the hut has been expanded and rebuilt several times, due to damage from avalanches. Today, it offers comfortable lodging and hearty meals to weary travelers.The Edelhütte is easily accessible via the Ahornbahn cable car, making it a convenient destination for families and casual hikers. From the top of the cable car, it's an easy one-hour walk to the hut. More experienced hikers can choose to ascend from Mayrhofen, a challenging 4-hour hike gaining 1,600 meters in altitude.Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, the Edelhütte is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Alps. The Ahornspitze, the main mountain above Mayrhofen, offers a challenging climb for experienced mountaineers. Shorter, easier hikes are also available, such as the climb to Toreggenkopf, suitable for families with children. The hut is typically open from June to mid-October, depending on the operation of the Ahornbahn cable car.

Cable Car & Walking
The easiest way to reach Karl von Edelhütte is by taking the Ahornbahn cable car from Mayrhofen to the Filzenalm (Ahorn). From the mountain station, follow the well-marked trail towards Edelhütte. The hike is approximately one hour and offers stunning views of the surrounding Alps. A roundtrip ticket on the Ahornbahn costs around €30.
Walking
For a more challenging approach, hike from Mayrhofen via Trail 514. The trail is well-marked and takes approximately 4 hours to reach the hut, with an ascent of around 1,600 meters. From the town center, follow signs to the Ahornbahn valley station and then continue on Trail 514. There are no specific costs associated with this route, but ensure you have appropriate hiking gear and check weather conditions.
