Funicular
The most direct way to reach the Hallstatt Skywalk is via the Salzbergbahn funicular. From the center of Hallstatt, walk south towards the base of the Salzberg mountain. The funicular station is located on the outskirts of the city and is about a 5-minute walk from parking lot P1. Purchase a round-trip ticket at the valley station. The funicular ride takes only a few minutes to reach the top. As of February 2025, a roundtrip ticket costs €24 for adults and €12 for children (ages 4-15). From September 1st, 2025, to June 2026, the funicular will be closed for construction.
Walking
For a more active approach, you can hike to the Hallstatt Skywalk. The trail begins near the Salzbergbahn funicular's valley station. Follow the serpentine path uphill, which takes approximately one hour to reach the top. Ensure you wear sturdy hiking shoes, as the trail can be steep and uneven. There is no fee to hike to the Skywalk. Note that in winter, the hiking trail may be impassable due to snow.
Public Transport
If arriving by train, take the ferry from the Hallstatt train station across the lake to the town. The ferry crossing takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately €3 per person. Upon arriving in Hallstatt, walk south for about 10 minutes towards the Salzbergbahn funicular station, where the trail to the Skywalk begins. Alternatively, buses 542 or 543 can be taken from the Hallstatt town center to the Dachstein cable car stop, which is near the funicular. From there, follow signs to the Salzbergbahn.
Parking
If arriving by car, park in one of the designated parking lots outside the center of Hallstatt. Parking lots P1, P2, P3 and P4 are available. Short-term parking costs €5 for 1 hour. From the parking lots, it's about a 5-15 minute walk to the Salzbergbahn funicular station. During peak season, a free shuttle service is available from P1 to the town center. Parking P3 is suitable for RVs, campers and cars.
