However, during the wedding festivities, Emperor Francis I, Leopold's father, unexpectedly died, leading to the arch's dual purpose as a memorial.Designed by architect Constantin Walter, the Triumphpforte stands at the southern end of Maria-Theresien-Straße. Constructed from Höttinger Breccia, a local stone, the arch exemplifies Baroque architecture with detailed sculptures. The arch features three archways, with the central one being the largest. The north side, facing the city, celebrates the royal wedding with reliefs and inscriptions depicting marital virtues.
