Public Transport
From Salzburg city center, take the bus number 150 in the direction of St. Wolfgang. The bus departs from the Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Make sure to validate your ticket before boarding. The journey takes about 1 hour. Get off at the stop 'St. Wolfgang, Marktplatz'. From there, you will need to walk to the Schafberg cog railway station, which is approximately a 10-minute walk. Follow the signs to the railway station, and you will see the Schafbergbahn station where you can purchase tickets for the cog railway.
Train and Walk
Start at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and take a regional train to Bad Ischl. The train ride takes around 1 hour. Once you arrive at Bad Ischl, exit the train station and walk towards the Schafberg cog railway station. It is about a 15-minute walk. Follow the signs, and you will find the station where you can take the cog railway to the top of Schafberg.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from the city center to the Schafberg area. Taxis are available throughout the city, and the journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Inform the driver that you want to go to Schafberg, and they will take you to the base of the cog railway station.
Walking
For the adventurous, if you are staying in the nearby areas of St. Wolfgang, you can hike up to Schafberg. There are various trails that lead to the peak, and the hike takes about 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water. The main trail starts from the base of the Schafbergbahn station.
