Discover more about Sky Space

Sky Space, officially titled "Blue Pearl – Skyspace," is a captivating art installation created by American artist James Turrell, located on Mönchsberg, offering panoramic views of Salzburg. As part of the Walk of Modern Art, this unique structure invites visitors to contemplate light and space in a new way. The installation is an elliptical cylinder, constructed from the same natural rock as Mönchsberg, seamlessly blending into its environment. The most striking feature is its open roof, framing the sky and turning it into an ever-changing canvas of light and color. Inside, the minimalist space with white walls encourages visitors to sit and immerse themselves in the experience. Sky Space is particularly mesmerizing at dawn and dusk, when the sunlight creates a dynamic interplay of shadows and hues. Turrell enhances this effect with subtle, color-changing artificial light, blurring the lines between nature and technology. The installation invites visitors to escape the everyday and connect with their senses, imagination, and soul.
