From Hallstatt Lahn bus station, take bus #543 towards Obertraun Dachsteinseilbahn. The bus stops directly in front of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station. The ride is approximately 10 minutes. Check the OÖVV (Oberösterreichischer Verkehrsverbund) website or app for the most current timetable. A single ticket costs around €3-5. From the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station, purchase a ticket for Section 1, which takes you to the Schönbergalm middle station. A 'Dachstein Cave Ticket' includes the cable car ride and entrance to both the Ice and Mammoth Caves. In 2025, this ticket costs €48.70 for adults. The cable car runs every 15 minutes. From the Schönbergalm, follow the well-marked path uphill for about 15-20 minutes to reach the entrance of the Dachstein Ice Cave.
Driving
From Hallstatt, drive south towards Obertraun. Follow the signs for Dachstein Krippenstein. The drive is approximately 8km and takes about 10 minutes. There is a large parking lot at the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station. Parking costs €5 for a full day (6 am - 10 pm). From the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car valley station, purchase a ticket for Section 1, which takes you to the Schönbergalm middle station.
