Getting There
-
Walking
From Residenzplatz, walk towards the large open square, Domplatz. The Salzburg Cathedral will be directly in front of you, with the main entrance facing the square. The walk is short, approximately 2-3 minutes, and offers excellent views of the cathedral's facade as you approach. There are no costs associated with this approach.
-
Public Transport
If arriving at Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take bus lines 1, 3, 5, 6, or 25 to the 'Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz' bus stop. From the bus stop, walk towards the Old Town, passing the Salzburg Museum. Continue straight ahead, and you'll see the Cathedral Square and the Cathedral on your left. A single bus fare costs €2.50 if purchased from a vending machine or €3.00 if purchased on board. Alternatively, from Salzburg Hbf, take the bus to Salzburg Mozartsteg/Rudolfskai A. The journey takes approximately 10 minutes and costs the same.
-
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to Salzburg Cathedral will take approximately 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The drop-off point will be near the edge of the pedestrian zone in the Old Town, from where you can easily walk to the cathedral. Expect to pay around €7-€9 for the ride. Note that Uber is available in Salzburg, but local taxis are more common. Starting fare for pre-booked taxis is €3.90.

Driving
Driving directly to Salzburg Cathedral is not recommended due to the pedestrianized zone in the Old Town. The best option is to park in one of the nearby garages, such as the Altstadtgarage A or B. From there, it's a short walk to the cathedral. Parking at Altstadtgarage costs approximately €6 for 8 hours with a discount if you show your festival ticket.
