Originally a medieval moated castle dating back to 1130, it was transformed into a Baroque masterpiece in the 18th century. Emperor Frederick III gifted the castle to his wife, Eleonore, in 1460, marking its significance within the imperial family. In 1776, Field Marshal Gideon von Laudon, a military hero under Maria Theresa, acquired the castle and lavishly furnished it.
